Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Book Group
Here at Nativity we are blessed to have three different book groups. They are five week sessions that cover many topics. See below for previous books. The purpose of the group is not only to read, learn and discuss, but also to share our faith and our own journeys to God. They are a very relaxed environment that encourage open and respectful discussion. If you are interested in joining us, see the schedule below and give us a call, email us, or fill out the form below.
Upcoming Schedule- The Confessions of Saint Augustine
The first Western autobiography ever written, Augustine's Confessions are an essential spiritual read for all Catholics. Join us as we break down St. Augustine's message book by book and discover together the mercy and patience of God in the life of a sinner, and how it impacts all of us today.
Since the Confessions are much longer than other previous books, it will be covered in more than 5 weeks. Please speak with the individual facilitator to see where each group is in their reading.

The Confessions of Saint Augustine

- Why is the book called the Confessions?
- What is the purpose of these confessions?
- What is so important about the famous line “ You stir us so that praying you may bring us joy, because you have made us and drawn us to yourself, and our heart is unquiet until it rests in you.”?
- What questions does Augustine ask about God, himself and confession?
- How do you view education? What do you think the point of education is? What is Augustine’s view of education? What does he feel that education is supposed to do?
- In I.19.30, Augustine states that little “harmless” sins snowballed into something greater. Do you agree with this? Why?
- Are there any similarities or differences in Augustine’s life so far between your own? Are you surprised by this, or not?
- So far, why as Catholics do we care about Augustine’s Confessions?
