TIPS FOR A BETTER HOMILY EXPERIENCE: The homily should be part of an active relationship between preacher and parish. All of us, speaking or listening, should always try to improve the experience. Revelation is not revelation unless it is received. All of us can help our preachers feel that they are talking to people who are listening. And those listening might get a little more out of it. Here are six tips for the congregation to get more out of the homily.

  1. Look at the homilist (Important to know the audience is listening)
  2. Do not read during the homily (Hard to hear the message when distracted by reading)
  3. Sit still during the homily (Concentrate on the message of the homily)
  4. Comment on the homily (after the Mass)
  5. Read the scriptures before Mass (Be familiar with the subject of the homily)
  6. Don’t distract the homilist during his homily (baseball caps, chewing gum, talking etc.
