The Pre-K Program at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School is a developmental program. When school begins, children are given the Early Prevention of School Failure Assessment. This is a nationally normed pre/post evaluation. This assessment is aligned to researched 3 to 5 year-old development skills. the results of this initial assessment provides a profile from which learning activities are designed to meet the needs of the children. The early identification of the development levels supports the develop of appropriate educational planning which provides children with a quality early childhood program.

The Pre-K Assessment includes:

  • Language Area - This area assesses the child's ability to comprehend and express verbal and nonverbal communication.

  • Cognitive Area - This is the process of gaining skills related to knowing and recognizing.

  • Fine Motor Area - This refers to a child's eye-hand coordination and control over fine muscles. If this learning is missed, later learning may be slower and more difficult.

  • Gross Motor Area - This area assesses selected movement patterns in three areas: loco-motor activities, manipulative abilities and stability activities.
